ABOUT THE DISTRICT
A place rooted in culture, history, and community
Boston’s Latin Quarter stretches from Hyde Square to Jackson Square in Jamaica Plain, with Centre Street running through the heart of the district. The neighborhood reflects generations of Afro-Latin culture, art, business, advocacy, and community life.
A vibrant neighborhood
Boston’s Latin Quarter is home to restaurants, small businesses, murals, public art, cultural events, and community spaces that celebrate the district’s Afro-Latin heritage.
Youth helped lead the way
In 2016, guided by the advocacy of Hyde Square Task Force youth, Boston City Council designated the Hyde-Jackson Square neighborhood as Boston’s Latin Quarter.
An official cultural district
In 2018, with support from artists, residents, and community partners, Boston’s Latin Quarter became an official Massachusetts Cultural District. HSTF now serves as the district’s Managing Partner.
